Certain skin conditions may be improved by pixel laser
skin resurfacing using the Pixel®. In laser skin resurfacing,
a laser is used to remove areas of damaged or wrinkled skin,
layer by layer. Until recently skin resurfacing required
months of downtime and healing. More modern skin resurfacing
lasers burn tiny holes in the skin, which is called fractional
skin resurfacing. The Alma Pixel® is an FDA- approved
fractional ablative skin resurfacing laser that represents
a new option to perform skin resurfacing on aged and photo-damaged
skin: it's a safe and effective treatment with no downtime,
and no anesthesia required.
How fractional skin resurfacing works
The procedure is most commonly used to minimize the appearance
of acne scars, uneven texture, and fine lines, especially
around the mouth and the eyes. However, it is also effective
in treating areas of uneven pigmentation. Pixel laser
resurfacing may be performed on the whole face or in specific
regions. Pixel laser resurfacing removes the damaged
outer layers of skin and stimulates the production of collagen
and new skin cells in the underlying layers. Laser skin rejuvenation
is popular because it is safe and effective and is often
done as an outpatient procedure. Laser resurfacing usually
results in smoother, younger, healthier looking skin.
Who is a good candidate?
Fractional skin resurfacing is appropriate for patients who
want to diminish discoloration, wrinkles, sun damage, acne
marks, and soften the texture of their skin. Still, those
with severe scarring may need to use additional scar revision
techniques in order to achieve the best results possible.
The best candidates for laser skin rejuvenation are those
who have realistic expectations and who discuss their questions
and concerns beforehand.
What can I expect?
Using precise and controlled beams of light, the outer layers
of skin are vaporized, revealing the smooth, unblemished
skin beneath. The patient can expect redness in the evening
following the procedure. The following day the patient will
notice tiny holes covering the treated area. The tiny holes
will begin to disappear and the skin will peel for 3 –5
days. By the 6th or 7th day your skin will be healed and
typically has immediate visible changes. When the old layers
of skin are removed, the growth of new skin cells is stimulated.

a test spot so that the patient may experience the laser
and see how the skin heals and repairs itself.
