PhotoFacial, also known as Photorejuvenation, is a non-invasive cosmetic procedure
that utilizes photons from various wavelengths of light to rejuvenate the skin. This
procedure typically performed on the face, can actually be performed anywhere on the
body including chest, shoulders, arms, and hands.
Turning back the clock
As we age, our skin reflects damage from the sun, the elements and the wear-and-tear
of daily life. In response, we often seek aesthetic procedures to restore a fresh and
youthful appearance. PhotoFacial — one of the most popular cosmetic procedures today —
is designed to produce younger and healthier looking skin. Often times as we age our skin
begins to show signs of freckles, wrinkles, broken capillaries, dark spots, blotchy skin color,
redness of the face and neck, enlarged pore size and uneven pigmentation. PhotoFacial can be
used to reduce the appearance of vascular redness and Rosacea, alleviate pigmented brown spots
and sun damage, and improve skin texture and collagen structure all at once. With the use of
FDA approved Alma Lasers AFT Intense Pulsed Light technology, dramatic improvements can now be
accomplished with little or no "downtime" and with very minimal discomfort.
By using multiple wavelengths of light we are able to rejuvenate different targets in the
skin. The patient must avoid the sun for a minimum of 6 weeks prior to PhotoFacial treatments.
Tanned skin and skin of color cannot be treated.
Our board certified staff can customize a package of treatments dependant on your skin type
and skin condition. We will perform a comprehensive analysis of your skin allowing us to
recognize problem areas and determine the appropriate device, giving you the best results possible.
Often we will combine PhotoFacial techniques with “Pixel” Skin Resurfacing, Accent XL Skin
Tightening, and microdermabrasion treatments to optimize your results. Call Advanced Skin Fitness

FAQs
What is PhotoFacial?
PhotoFacial is a series of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments that improve the appearance of
sun damaged skin, age spots, and red broken capillaries. Treatments are especially effective for
improving the appearance of the face, neck, chest, and hands. This exciting treatment involves
little or no "down time." You can resume normal activities immediately.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?
For optimal results, a series of 3 to 6 treatments are recommended. Follow-up treatments may be
desired once or twice a year to maintain results.
^ top
How does the treatment work?
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is applied in a series of gentle pulses over the treatment area.
Without damaging the skin, the light penetrates through the skin and is absorbed by the abnormally
dilated vessels or pigmentation. The heat causes damage to the vessel or lesion, and the body begins
its natural healing process. The lesion will darken and crust before it flakes off or the body absorbs
it. Treatment can be given as frequently as every three weeks.

What are the benefits of PhotoFacial?
Treatment improves color such as sun spots, age spots, dull complexions, uneven pigmentation, flushing,
sun damaged skin, early signs of aging, and broken capillaries. You can enjoy smoother skin with a more
even tone. PhotoFacial offers minimal discomfort during treatment and you will be able to resume regular
activities immediately.

What is treatment like?
Treatment may vary from 15 to 45 minutes depending on the size of the area to be treated. When the pulse
of laser light is delivered, the sensation is similar to a snap of a rubber band. After treatment the skin
cleansed, cooled with a cool compress, and a sunscreen is applied.

Are there any possible side effects?
Side effects are rare but can include burning, blistering, scabbing, and changes in pigmentation. Immediately
following treatment, the skin may appear flushed, brown pigmented spots may appear darker, and capillaries may
be more visible. In rare instances, temporary swelling may occur.

What improvement will I see?
Patients have a high degree of satisfaction with their results. Expect to see a gradual decrease in redness, broken
capillaries, flushing, irregular pigmentation, pore size and fine lines. After each treatment, the skin will feel
smoother and appear to have a more even tone.
^ top
Is this treatment covered by insurance?
Most insurance companies do not cover cosmetic procedures.
^ top
How much does the laser treatment cost?
The cost depends upon how much of an area is treated, but can be surprisingly reasonable. Treatments are less expensive
when purchased in a series of treatments.
