Imagine having smooth, hair free skin without shaving, waxing,
plucking, or bleaching your unwanted hair. Using the latest
Candela laser technology known as the GentleLASE lasing
process, we offer safe, fast, effective treatments for both
men and women, tanned skin, and skin of color.
Unlike other treatments, the GentleLASE process is
easy—requiring no creams or gels, no pre-treatment waxing,
and no needles. In fact, laser hair removal is a cosmetic
breakthrough. Treatments are comfortable, treating hair follicles
in a fraction of the time of other methods, using only the
gentle power of laser light.
Traditional hair removal techniques, such as shaving, plucking,
waxing and depilatory creams provide only temporary relief.
Until now, the only recognized way to remove hair permanently
has been by electrolysis - which can be tedious, time-consuming
and uncomfortable. The GentleLASE System safely removes
unwanted body hair without damaging the delicate pores and
structures of the skin. Facial and bikini areas are usually
completed in less than ten minutes; legs, backs and larger
areas can take longer.
If you have fair to medium skin, light to dark hair,
and blue, green, or brown eyes the GentleLASE
alexandrite laser is probably best suited for you. The
GentleYAG
is best suited for darker skin, tanned skin, and brown
to black eyes. Whatever your skin type, we have a laser
that will safely and effectively treat your hair.
Advanced Skin Fitness is also one of the only laser centers
in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex offering both male
and female laser technicians, as well as both the GentleLASE
and GentleYAG lasing systems.
How it works.
Lasers remove hair by destroying the blood supply to the hair
follicle. When the procedure is performed correctly, all of
the hair follicles with a blood supply will be destroyed during
the treatment. The reason hair removal requires multiple treatments
is because the hair grows in cycles. You have much more hair
lying dormant under the skin than is actually growing at any
given time. The hairs typically change cycles about every
6 weeks. Therefore treatments must be performed about 6 weeks
apart. This can vary slightly depending on the area of the
body. Women usually require 5 to 6 treatments while men often
require more. If someone tells you they can remove the hair
in less than 5 or 6 treatments they are simply not being honest
with you. It is very important to adhere closely to your laser
schedule. Failure to not follow your schedule will result
in more treatments than normal.

Before your treatment.
Before you arrive for each hair removal treatment, there
are a few simple instructions that must be followed to
make your treatment as effective and safe as possible.
First, you must avoid the sun for 4 – 6 weeks for
the GentleLASE alexandrite laser and avoid the
sun for 2 weeks with the GentleYAG ND:YAG laser.
Recent sun exposure or artificial tanning bed exposure
can excite the melanin in the skin can adversely affect
treatment effectiveness. You should also avoid spray-on
tans for 7 days prior to treatment. Next, the treatment
area should be absolutely clean of any deodorants, lotions,
makeup, sun block, or any other chemicals or skincare
products. These can block the transmission of light and
limit the amount of heat that enters the skin. Last, make
a note of any medications that you are currently taking.
Your laser hair removal professional needs this information
to make sure that any medications you are taking do not
cause photosensitivity. Let your technician know each
time you have a treatment if you have taken any new medications
or received any sun exposure.

The Procedure.
Before we begin the procedure we will ask a few simple medical
questions. Before each treatment we will ask about your recent
tanning habits and any new medications. If you suspect you
are pregnant it is important to let your technician know.
Next we will remove any re-growth with a razor. This will
provide a clean surface and will prevent any hair on the outside
of the skin from absorbing the laser light. Typically we will
outline the area with a marker to make sure that we are treating
the entire area. This is to ensure that no areas are missed
by the laser. Now the technician will uniformly pulse the
laser over the entire area to be treated. The pulse will feel
like a rubber band snapping on the skin. The sensation is
only felt during the pulse of the laser beam and usually doesn’t
linger on after the treatment. After the treatment we will
cool the skin with a wash cloth, remove any lines from the
marker, and apply a soothing lotion if needed.
A topical anesthetic cream can be prescribed for sensitive
areas if necessary to lessen the discomfort.

Post-Treatment Care.
The treated skin will feel like a sun burn for a few hours
after the treatment. The skin will appear pink and may be
slightly tender for a few hours to a few days. On rare occasion
there may be burning, blistering, scabbing, or bruising. If
this happens contact Advanced Skin Fitness immediately for
special instructions.
The hair will appear to grow after the treatment. It is actually
not growing, it is shedding. In about 10 to 14 days the hair
will loosen up and fall out of the follicle.
It is important to closely follow your protocol and schedule
your next appointment. Missed appointments can results in
more treatments than normal. For more questions contact Advanced
Skin Fitness.
