ClearLight™ Acne Therapy Treatment

The genius of ClearLight is its use of Acne PhotoClearing (APC) technology to attack the P. acnes bacteria responsible for causing acne outbreaks. The process is quick, painless and requires no oral medications or antibiotics.

Though the ClearLight resembles ultraviolet light, it is in fact light of a different wavelength, and there are no known side effects. Treatments last approximately 15 minutes apiece, and we require two treatments a week for four to five weeks.

ClearLight™ with Photodynamic Therapy with Levulan

For a more aggressive skin rejuvenation treatment, Advanced Skin Fitness offers ClearLight with Levulan Photodynamic Therapy by DUSA®. This treatment is a multi-step process, but the benefits are immediate: ClearLight with Photodynamic Therapy can be completed in fewer sessions than regular ClearLight treatment, and is the best alternative to antibiotics and other extreme medications.

First, we apply Levulan topical medicine to the area to be treated 30 - 90 minutes prior to the procedure. The P. acnes bacteria takes the Levulan and turns it into a light-sensitive substance, which then selectively absorbs laser light, destroying the P. acnes bacteria. This skin rejuvenation process takes three to five sessions and carries few of the side effects associated with systemic therapy such as Accutane or long-term antibiotic therapy.

It's important to know that following the ClearLight with Photodynamic Therapy sessions, the skin will be pink and sensitive to sunlight for 48 hours afterward, so it's important to keep this sensitive skin protected with sunscreen of at least SPF 30. We also recommend wide brim hats. Serious sunburns can sometimes occur following the Levulan treatments.
